Dr Joe Abruzzino is one of the founders of Acorn and has been an active member of the Shenandoah Valley area for nearly twenty years. Dr Joe is a huge advocate for locally owned businesses. He feels that local businesses can better understand and offer services that more closely align with the community.
While Dr Joe is an active veterinarian in the clinic, he is also a licensed civil engineer and a private pilot. He has volunteered with many wildlife rescue groups and spent nearly two years as a volunteer at the South Florida Wildlife Center. He also spent time at the Cape Cod Wildlife Center where he worked closely with red tailed hawk rehabilitation.
Dr Joe also has experience in emergency medicine, horses, and exotic pets, but now mainly focuses on primary companion, dog and cat, medicine.
When not in the clinic, Dr Joe loves traveling and the outdoors and can regularly be found with his two children kayaking on the Shenandoah River.

Dr. Clara has a passion for agriculture and loves living and working on her family’s farm- West Oaks. She enjoys raising show pigs and show lambs. She also helps coach the Frederick County 4H Livestock Judging and Stockmans teams. While Acorn will start out as a small animal private practice, Dr. Clara hopes that someday it will grow to encompass livestock species.
In addition to doing veterinary work here in the Valley, Dr. Clara has also done several veterinary trips with Christian Veterinary Mission in Haiti. There, she helped with community vet clinics, rabies vaccination clinics and with teaching local vet agents.
Dr. Clara is very excited to bring high quality pet medicine to the Strasburg area. She is looking forward to offering care to pets young and old and is especially eager to expand health care options for pets in advanced age.
